This courtyard, though mostly bare on the surface was excavated in 1903 yielding more than 700 stone and 17000 bronze statues. The reasons for this cache are not well understood.

From this vantage point, remains of the 7th and 8th pylons are visible. The crane in the background is rebuilding the 9th pylon.
